The Simpsons and Grad Life

I've been working on my dissertation, with the goal of graduating very soon. This morning as I drank my coffee, I decided a deserved to watch a Simpsons' Episode.

On Season 16, Episode 20 the following exchange between Bart and Marge occurs:

Bart: I was so bored I cut the pony tail off the guy sitting in front of us. Look at me, I’m a grad student! I’m 30 years old and I made $600 last year!

Marge: Bart, don’t make fun of grad students, they just made a terrible life choice.

My first reaction was to laugh out loud. Then the pain set in. It is so true it is sad.
